About The Position

We are seeking a Corporate Banking Portfolio Management Team Leader who will oversee a team of Commercial banking Portfolio Managers and Credit Analysts across Citizens' NYC, New Jersey, and Long Island offices including those who underwrite and manage Middle Market (annual sales revenue between $50MM - $500MM) transactions and relationships. Functions/Deliverables: Responsible for all aspects of portfolio management including transaction structuring, due diligence and underwriting, credit approval, reporting/credit monitoring and problem loan identification. Intensively involved in credit actions (deal screens, approval of new business and amendment requests and Watchlist) on a credit-intensive portfolio. Assures that all Portfolio Managers & Credit Analysts are trained and kept up to date on Citizens Bank credit policy as well as credit issues affecting the general economy. Actively involved in assessing, developing and implementing credit and compliance policies; Actively ensures compliance with federal regulations and Citizens Bank policies. Designs and monitors internal systems to assure that all assigned work and ongoing monitoring is completed on a timely basis and in a manner that complies with all Citizens Bank internal policies. Prioritizes work that is assigned to the group, assure that work is appropriately distributed among the team members and is responsible for objective quality control of group's analytical and reporting work product to include accurate application of credit, risk, and other policies and practices required to effectively manage risk exposure and loss to the Bank. Achieve satisfactory or better ratings from Credit Review and Compliance and meet compliance targets for annual reviews, risk ratings, and covenant compliance monitoring. Responsible for performance management process and professional development for direct reports. Largely internally focused interacting with Portfolio Managers, Relationship Managers, Division Executives, Credit Officers, Work Out Officers, and Senior Management. Externally meets with customers/prospects to actively negotiate deals and solve customer/prospect requests and problems. Is viewed as a trusted advisor on credit and portfolio management issues/challenges.

Requirements

  • 10 plus years commercial banking experience which should include Middle Market and other areas of Corporate Banking
  • Exhibits strong level of knowledge of commercial banking sales, commercial banking products, credit, risk, and administration practices and processes
  • Strong understanding of general credit and risk principles, mitigants, and banking policies and procedures
  • Balanced approach to enable focus on both business unit goals and risk management objectives
  • Skilled at developing and implementing both strategic and tactical solutions in support of portfolio administration and business unit goals and objectives
  • Able to multi task and function under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication and negotiation skills
  • Focused on client experience/ customer service
  • Flexible change agent able to lead and handle both process and organizational changes
  • Experience with direct reports including managing day to day activity as well as annual performance reviews and coaching/development for entry to expert level colleagues preferred
  • BA/BS degree required; MBA in Finance, Business Administration or Accounting preferred
