About The Position

The Middle School Science Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging, standards-based science instruction to students in grades 6–8. The teacher fosters a positive learning environment that encourages scientific inquiry, critical thinking, and hands-on exploration. This role involves lesson planning, classroom management, student assessment, and collaboration with colleagues and parents to support student growth.

Requirements

  • Exceptional knowledge of the needs of students.
  • Knowledge needed to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and to speak effectively with middle-aged students and/or employees in a school environment.
  • Knowledge of federal and state special education laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of effective and innovative instructional and student evaluation techniques.
  • Strong skills in classroom management, collaboration, and differentiated instruction.
  • Strong communication skills with students, staff, administration, and the public.
  • Understanding a child’s behavior and dynamics.
  • Skilled in problem solving and patience.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
  • Ability to fulfill the dexterity and physical requirements of the work and effectively attend to students.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measurement, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Application of percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations is required.
  • South Carolina certification in middle level science
  • Must have and maintain a valid Driver’s License or ability to provide own transportation
  • Prior to beginning employment, negative tb test results must be provided
  • Applicants must submit official transcripts, three professional references with at least one supervisory reference and a copy of the appropriate credentials as part of the application process.
  • As a condition of employment and prior to onboarding, the district will conduct a criminal history background check. The recommended candidate will be required to provide personal information necessary to complete the background check such as date of birth, gender, and race to remain in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement daily science lessons aligned with curriculum standards (e.g., NGSS or state standards).
  • Teach topics across life science, physical science, and earth/space science.
  • Design and conduct labs, experiments, and interactive activities to enhance learning.
  • Create a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Assess student learning using a variety of tools (tests, projects, presentations, formative assessments).
  • Use data to adjust instruction and provide differentiated support.
  • Communicate regularly with students, parents, and colleagues about academic progress and classroom expectations.
  • Integrate technology and real-world applications into instruction.
  • Participate in professional development and school-wide events.
  • Supervise students during non-instructional times as required (e.g., lunch, recess, field trips).
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student performance and attendance.
