About The Position

A Middle Level Agriculture Education Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging, standards-based agricultural education to students in grades 6–8 (or equivalent middle school levels). The teacher introduces students to foundational agricultural concepts, including plant and animal science, environmental stewardship, food systems, agribusiness basics, and agricultural technology, while promoting leadership, responsibility, and career awareness.

  • Exceptional knowledge of the needs of students.
  • Knowledge needed to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and to speak effectively with middle-aged students and/or employees in a school environment.
  • Knowledge of federal and state special education laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of effective and innovative instructional and student evaluation techniques.
  • Strong skills in classroom management, collaboration, and differentiated instruction.
  • Strong communication skills with students, staff, administration, and the public.
  • Understanding a child’s behavior and dynamics.
  • Skilled in problem solving and patience.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
  • Ability to fulfill the dexterity and physical requirements of the work and effectively attend to students.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measurement, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Application of percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations is required.
  • Ability to teach middle school Introduction to Agriculture courses.
  • South Carolina certification in Agriculture Education
  • Experience with FFA instruction and leadership training
  • Familiar with educational technology tools
  • Strong classroom management skills and a growth-oriented mindset
  • Must have and maintain a valid Driver’s License or ability to provide own transportation
  • May be required to travel to school district buildings and professional meetings
  • Prior to beginning employment, negative tb test results must be provided

Responsibilities

  • Formulates and administers a comprehensive, modern program of agricultural education
  • Maintains close working relationships with community and state agencies and area businesses, industries, and labor organization, to provide training consistent with needs, and establishes lay advisory committees as needed
  • Appraises and evaluates the total agricultural program to achieve the established goals of providing the opportunity for people to prepare for gainful employment
  • Maintains current knowledge of all pertinent rules and regulations affecting agricultural education
  • Advises and assists in obtaining state and federal funds for agricultural education programs
  • Assumes responsibility for the collection, review and submission of all forms and reports relative to agricultural education to state agencies
  • Advises school’s FFA Chapter and holds regular meetings
  • Notifies administrators, newspapers and other media about competitive events and other FFA related activities
  • Plans practices for and attends at least three competitions per year
  • Attends (with students) at least one FFA related camps
  • Helps plan and provide supervised agricultural experience programs (SAE) for students
