About The Position

Rye Country Day School is seeking a full-time Middle and Upper School Band Teacher beginning in August, 2026. Rye Country Day School is a coeducational, PreK-12, college preparatory school located in Westchester County, New York dedicated to providing students with an excellent education using both traditional and innovative approaches. Specific responsibilities of the position include: Creating curriculum and teaching Concert and Jazz Band in grades 5-12 Preparing concerts and creating informal performing opportunities Nurturing a supportive, enthusiastic and inspiring atmosphere for students Communicating regularly with parents/guardians, administration, and colleagues Participate in all school, division, and departmental meetings as well as field trips, special activities, and rotational duties Serving as a Middle School advisor and participate in grade-level advisory activities and field trips Providing simple repairs and maintenance to school instruments Collaborating with other members of the music department including the band assistant Participating in professional development opportunities Desired qualifications: Master’s degree in a relevant field of study At least three years experience teaching music in a Middle and/or Upper School setting A familiarity with diverse band and jazz band literature and current instrumental best practices Warm and enthusiastic teaching style Excellent oral, written, and organizational skills Ability to support the individual skills of students across instruments Demonstrated capacity of music program leadership Desire to seek opportunities to showcase student performance Being consistent and reliable in teaching in two different divisions of the school A well-developed sensitivity, knowledge, and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community members; a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion Comfort with emergent technology, 1:1 laptop program, and online course management An ability and willingness to support the extracurricular life of the school Genuine excitement for and ability to work with Middle and Upper School students, employees, and parents and guardians Enthusiasm for the school’s various initiatives Bringing a knowledge of music technology and production RCDS seeks faculty and staff who support our mission to foster a lifelong passion for learning, understanding, and service in an ever-changing world, and who share our commitment to creating and sustaining a vibrant, thriving, and inclusive multicultural learning community.
