About The Position

The Midday Substitute Bus Driver is responsible for safely operating a school bus over designated routes to transport students to and from school, special events, and field trips. This role includes performing daily inspections and maintenance of the vehicle, ensuring the safety and discipline of students during transport, and assisting physically and mentally handicapped students as needed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or G.E.D. Certificate or progress towards obtaining a G.E.D. as required by Kentucky law.
• One year of experience in the operation of a motor vehicle.
• Valid Kentucky Commercial Class B driver's license, including passenger endorsement.
• School Bus Certificate; must pass driving record check.

Nice To Haves

• Experience working with children, especially those with special needs.
• Knowledge of first aid practices.

Responsibilities

• Drive a school bus over designated routes in accordance with specified time schedules and regulations.
• Transport students to and from school, special events, and field trips.
• Pick up and discharge students at established bus stops under varying weather conditions.
• Maintain the bus in a safe operating condition through daily inspections and maintenance.
• Interact with parents regarding questions, concerns, and disputes.
• Perform emergency bus evacuation drills as required.
• Transport physically and mentally handicapped children, assisting with loading and unloading as necessary.
• Maintain records concerning vehicle maintenance, miles driven, and number of children transported.
• Attend safety and preventive emergency meetings when required.
• Utilize two-way radio for communication during transport.
