About The Position

Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Mid-Level Scientist/Engineer to join our team! In this role you will get to perform environmental sampling (groundwater, soil, subsurface), manage remedial treatment operations, supervise subcontractors, and operate the public water supply system.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a science or engineering curriculum related to the assigned discipline and 3+ years of related work experience
  • Obtaining a State of Texas Class C Distribution Water Operator License (or higher) will be required, which includes 42 hours of coursework and successful completion of a State of Texas competency test. A minimum of 1 year of on-site training/supervision is required prior to obtaining a new license. Preference is given to applicants that already hold such valid licensing for the State of Texas.
  • Works well within a team environment in a fast-paced setting with high client expectations. Significant daily interaction with the client is required. Occasional public relations are expected for sampling off-property wells, maintenance of point-of-use groundwater treatment systems, and periodic public meetings.
  • Proficiency in various computer software applications typically used in scientific analyses is expected. Work will include significant data analysis, compilation, and presentation. Strong skills using MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are also expected. Writing samples will be required.
  • Applicant must be a U.S. citizen and will undergo a stringent background check before actual hire.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance after onboarding.

Nice To Haves

  • Because of the extensive field component that will be required as part of this job, preference will be given to candidates who already possess field and remedial systems experience.
  • Preference will also be given to candidates who already possess a TCEQ Class C or higher water operator license.

Responsibilities

  • Perform independent field work and gathers all types of field data pertinent to the assigned project.
  • Perform the daily operation, maintenance, and documentation activities on long-term remediation systems including pump-and-treat and injection-based systems. General working knowledge and troubleshooting of pumping and distribution systems is preferred. The ability to use common hand/power tools is required.
  • Assist with the performance of daily/weekly operation, maintenance, and documentation activities of the TCEQ-permitted public water supply system serving the facility. Duties include the supervision of production, disinfection, storage, and distribution of potable water sourced from a local public utility. Routine activities include water sampling, documentation, meter calibrations, equipment maintenance, materials handling, and liaison interaction with client operators and occasionally the regulatory authority.
  • Duties include the use of a remote monitoring SCADA system to control and supervise the operations of both remediation systems and the public water supply system.
  • As a team member on groundwater sampling team for large-scale monitoring program, obtain samples from public supply wells, monitoring wells, remediation systems, and privately-owned wells on a quarterly basis. Familiarity with the operation and maintenance of dedicated groundwater sampling systems (currently QED bladder pumps) is preferred.
  • Occasionally supervise the installation of monitoring wells, well servicing (pump replacement), or other intrusive subsurface work. Groundwater experience in fractured bedrock and karstic environments is a preferred skill.
  • Routinely performs environmental/scientific/engineering or geologic analyses on data collected for interpretation, documentation, or presentation to the client and regulatory authorities.
  • Develops presentation materials and completes reports on finished fieldwork.
  • Prepares environmental/scientific reports with some technical oversight.
  • Prepares technical documents for both internal external customers.
  • May supervise one or more lower-level scientists or technicians, including reviewing environmental analyses, assessments, interpretations, and other types of reports.
  • Delegates and oversees completion of appointed tasks to complete project assignment.
  • Supervise subcontractors and assist in the planning, development, and managing of field activities.
  • May serve in an advisory capacity to senior management on specific environmental/scientific-related matters or public water operations. Periodically reviews engineering designs for compliance to applicable environmental and engineering standards.
  • May manage site investigation projects of varying size.
  • Assist project manager with monthly progress reporting.
