About The Position

The Boeing Company has an exciting opportunity for a Mid-level or Lead Electrophysics/Electromagnetics Engineer to join the Ridley Park, PA Vertical Lift Flight Technologies team in providing world class rotorcraft products and engineering support to both US and foreign military customers. Our team is responsible for ensuring aircraft and integrated sub-system performance in areas of electromagnetics (EM), antennas, and combat survivability for the H-47 Chinook tandem rotor helicopter, the V-22 Osprey tilt-rotor helicopter, and the MH-139A Grey Wolf USAF helicopter, along with other Boeing platforms and research projects. This position has responsibilities which include creating effective Electromagnetics (EM) solutions for aircraft integration of subsystems, supporting computational EM and Survivability modeling & simulation analyses for design trade studies and requirements verification, and also supporting EM testing of electronic subsystems and aircraft. The position will work closely with senior electro-physics engineering teammates and will interface with all other integrated product teams (e.g., Mission Systems/Avionics, Electrical, Structures, Systems Engineering, etc).

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus in Electrical, Mechanical or Aeronautical), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
  • Engineering experience with EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility), EMI (Electromagnetic Interference) or E3 (Electromagnetic Environmental Effects)
  • 5+ years of work-related experience in E3 qualification, production support, design, test or analysis with a Bachelor’s degree
  • This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. secret clearance Post Start may be required.
  • This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Nice To Haves

  • B.S Degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or Physics
  • Experience or education with electromagnetic theory and advanced mathematics necessary to perform or conduct electromagnetic analysis, design, modeling and testing.
  • Experience in Aerospace & Defense Industry and/or the military
  • Experience with relevant aircraft electromagnetic standards: MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-464, RTCA DO-160
  • Experience performing computational electromagnetic analysis (ANSYS EMIT and/or ANSYS STK, CST)
  • Experience working with federal regulations and certifications.
  • Experience with written and verbal communication and leading projects, along with the ability to make decisions and deliver results
  • Experience leading a team of engineers
  • Experience working within an engineering organization

Responsibilities

  • Develop and validate electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and electromagnetic interference (EMI) requirements for various communication, sensor, electronic warfare and other electromagnetic systems, subsystems, components, interconnects and structures.
  • Perform E3 program planning, authoring E3 support documentation, continuous program E3 oversight and visibility, and product manufacturing support
  • Develop and validate electromagnetic requirements for electrical\electronic systems, mechanical systems, interconnects and structures
  • Develop architectures to integrate systems and components into higher level systems and platforms
  • Perform trade studies, modeling, simulation and other forms of analysis to predict component, interconnect and system performance and to optimize design around established requirements
  • Define and conduct tests to validate performance of designs to requirements
  • Manage appropriate aspects of supplier and partner performance to ensure compliance to requirements
  • Oversee supplier electromagnetic testing for compliance with procedures and standards
  • Provide support to products throughout their lifecycle by developing root-cause analysis of anomalies and other engineering support as requested
  • Support project management by providing work statemen ts , budget, schedule and other required inputs and by reporting project status
  • Write appropriate sections of proposals to support development of new business
  • Work under general direction (Level 3) / Provides general mentorship (Level 4)
