About The Position

The position requires candidates to have a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field, along with eight (8) years of demonstrable experience in system administration and support of a large client-server based IT enterprise. Alternatively, candidates may have five (5) years of full-time computer science work that can substitute for the Bachelor’s Degree, combined with eight (8) years of relevant experience. An industry-recognized professional certification may substitute for one year of experience. The role involves installation, configuration, and networking of UNIX and/or NT based platforms, including user account management, system backups, and maintenance of system configuration files. Candidates should have a fundamental understanding of operating systems and familiarity with UNIX or NT commands at the user level. Responsibilities include developing and implementing enterprise backup/recovery strategies, server configuration, and ensuring the health of the IT infrastructure. Support for enterprise services such as DNS, NFS, e-mail services, and security mechanisms is also required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • Eight (8) years of demonstrable experience in system administration and support of a large client-server based IT enterprise.
  • Five (5) years of full-time computer science work that can substitute for the Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Fundamental understanding of operating systems.
  • Familiarity with UNIX or NT commands or utilities at the user level.
  • Experience with installation and configuration of hardware, operating systems, and commercial software packages.
  • Security+ Certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with multi-vendor servers running COTS, open-source, and in-house applications.
  • Experience with multi-vendor servers running Red Hat or SuSe with direct attached, FC SAN storage or SSDs.
  • Familiarity with distributing computing tools such as ReS, LSF, and SLURM.
  • Experience with HPC farm systems and HPC MPP clustered systems.
  • Knowledge of IBM or HP Blade servers with FC/SAS/Network back end.
  • Experience with multi-vendor filesystems such as XFS, GPFS, and Lustre.
  • Experience with pre-factory testing, factory testing, system integration, and acceptance testing during the purchase process of HPS systems.

Responsibilities

  • Installation, configuration, and networking of UNIX and/or NT based platforms.
  • Creating, modifying, and deleting user accounts.
  • Performing system backups and maintaining system configuration files.
  • Developing and implementing enterprise backup/recovery strategies.
  • Server configuration and consolidation.
  • Verification of the health and status of the entire IT infrastructure.
  • Providing support for enterprise services such as DNS, NFS, e-mail services, and security protection mechanisms.
