About The Position

AECOM's Cultural Resources team is seeking an experienced Mid-level Archaeologist (Archeologist III) for full-time employment with our Oakland, CA team. This is a hybrid role. This position is a core member of the Cultural Resources Practice with responsibility for supporting all aspects of project implementation as well as leading teams, tasks and/or full projects. This position may serve as a crew lead, based on work experience and education. Requirements

  • BA/BS in anthropology, archaeology, history, or a closely related field.
  • 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education in historic and/or precontact archaeology and cultural resources management.
  • Willingness/ability to travel and conduct fieldwork throughout central and northern California.
  • Valid driver’s license is required.
  • Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in anthropology, archaeology, history, or a closely related field.
  • 6+ years of experience in historic and/or precontact archaeology and cultural resources management.
  • Relevant field experience in central and/or northern California and/or Western US.
  • Advanced knowledge in one or more specialty scientific areas (e.g., lithic or faunal analysis; osteology; historical archaeology).
  • Demonstration of excellent technical writing skills, as well as verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience and familiarity with tribal representatives for Northern California.
  • Experience leading tasks and/or small projects.
  • Knowledge of regional and local (Northern California) regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Completing fieldwork (survey, testing, data recovery, and monitoring), archival research, technical report writing, and data collection and compilation.
  • Gathering data and other information to be used in the preparation of environmental reports.
  • Working independently, part of a team, and under supervision of senior staff.
  • Ability to lead a team in the field.
  • Liaising and developing positive relationships with clients and other stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of state and federal environmental regulatory framework, including the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), National Historic Preservation Act, and the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).
  • Ability to organize data in an efficient and clear manner.
  • Drawing conclusions and making recommendations based on analysis.
  • Being innovative and a problem solver.
  • Handling multiple tasks and communicating priorities to manager.
  • Have the flexibility and willingness to support multiple projects, including occasional travel as needed.
