About The Position

The Microtransit Driver operates City microtransit vehicles to provide safe, reliable, and customer-focused on-demand transportation services primarily on military installations and to designated locations immediately off post. This position utilizes a ride-on-demand application to respond to real-time passenger trip requests while complying with security requirements, traffic regulations, and service standards unique to controlled-access environments. The Microtransit Driver supports dependable service delivery and rider accessibility while maintaining a professional, safety-focused approach to transportation services within the City’s microtransit program.

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license is required. A Colorado driver’s license must be obtained within ninety (90) days of hire.
  • Demonstrated technical proficiency and adaptability with operational software and hardware systems; ability to quickly learn, effectively utilize, and troubleshoot evolving technologies essential to microtransit operations.
  • Must obtain FEMA ICS 100 and ICS 700 certifications within twelve (12) months of hire.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain access to military installations through approved security procedures is required.
  • Must be eligible to operate City vehicles and meet insurability requirements in accordance with City policy, including maintaining an acceptable driving record.
  • Driver’s license must not have been suspended or revoked within the previous three (3) years.
  • Must be willing and able to operate microtransit vehicles, including passenger and ADA compliant vans, in both on-demand and scheduled service environments.
  • Ability to use onboard technology, tablets, and ride-on-demand applications to receive trip requests, manage reservations, and document service activity.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both orally and in writing, with passengers, coworkers, dispatch staff, supervisors, military installation personnel, and the general public.
  • Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team and contribute to a positive, customer-focused service environment.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, apply established procedures, and carry out assigned duties with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to plan and organize work tasks, respond to changing service demands, and adapt to real-time operational needs.
  • Ability to present a professional appearance and demeanor while representing the City and its microtransit program.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

  • Ability to proficiently read, speak, and understand English.

  • Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills, analytical skills, statistical and mathematical abilities and interpersonal skills. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write complex reports and distill information for many audiences.
  • This position requires close, distance and peripheral vision.
  • Ability to hear an average conversational voice in a quiet room, using one or both ears, at a distance of six (6) feet. Ability to hear sounds and signals indicating work and safety necessities.
  • This position requires standing, walking and sitting for periods of time. Utilization of hands and fingers to operate office computer keyboard and equipment required. Must be able to reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel or crouch if needed.
  • Must be able to lift up to fifty (50) pounds as needed and frequently lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
  • This position requires effective proficiency in the use of computer software and applications, office equipment, and professional telephone use. The ability to adequately type quickly with few to no errors is also very important. This position will often require multi-tasking in the use of computer, phone, and office equipment while interacting with clients. Candidates for this position may be required to take and pass technology proficiency assessments prior to employment.

Nice To Haves

  • A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is preferred but not required.
  • Experience driving passenger vehicles, transit vehicles, shuttle services, or similar customer-facing transportation services (e.g., Uber or Lyft) is highly valued.
  • Military affiliation or experience that provides familiarity with military installations and operational environments (such as active-duty service member, dependent, veteran, or retiree status) is highly preferred.
  • Proficiency in non-English languages is highly valued.

Responsibilities

  • Complies with all City policies and procedures, as well as applicable local, state, and federal laws, regulations, and requirements related to the performance of assigned duties.
  • Demonstrates a respectful, collaborative, and team-oriented approach to work and establishes and maintains effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, external partners, and the public.
  • Safely operates City microtransit buses or vans primarily on military installations and to designated locations immediately adjacent to the installation, in accordance with security requirements, routing instructions, schedules, and City policies.
  • Provides on-demand transportation services using a ride request and reservation application, similar to commercial ride-share platforms, and responds to real-time trip requests in accordance with established service parameters.
  • Complies with all military installation access requirements, traffic regulations, security protocols, and coordination procedures while operating on-post or in controlled access environments.
  • Performs required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections; identifies safety concerns; and reports maintenance or repair needs verbally and in writing in accordance with established procedures.
  • Maintains the cleanliness, safety, and professional appearance of assigned vehicles, including interior and exterior areas.
  • Operates onboard vehicle equipment and technology, including wheelchair lifts, ramps, securement systems, tablets, mobile devices, and push-to-talk applications as applicable.
  • Assists passengers with boarding, exiting, and securement as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), including providing physical assistance and safely evacuating passengers during emergency situations when necessary.
  • Accurately maintains required passenger, trip, and vehicle records using both electronic systems and manual documentation as required.
  • Provides courteous, professional assistance to passengers, including general information regarding microtransit services, ride-request procedures, and applicable transit policies.
  • Communicates effectively with dispatch, supervisors, and program staff regarding service conditions, route issues, traffic delays, passenger concerns, or safety matters.
  • Adheres to all safety practices and procedures and operates vehicles in a safe, efficient, and customer-focused manner at all times.
  • Maintains a professional personal appearance and an orderly, professional vehicle and work area.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with passengers, coworkers, dispatch staff, military installation personnel, supervisors, and other City staff.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
