The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Program Management and Administration is looking for a Microcomputer/Network Specialist 2 to help us Keep Alaska Moving! Pay is based on the location of the selected applicant; salaries will be discussed at the time of the interview. Anchorage: $3,028.50 - semi-monthly Juneau: $3,180.00 - semi-monthly What you will be doing: DOT&PF is recruiting for a full-time, long-term, nonpermanent position. This position will accrue personal leave, enjoy 11 paid holidays a year, as well as have the option of health insurance and other benefits. Incumbent will provide technology support services primarily for the Alaska Marine Highway System (AMHS) within the Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF) and work in collaboration with other IT professionals to provide customer service and technical support for a broad range of technology services across the AMHS vessel fleet and terminals. This position is responsible for troubleshooting, analyzing, tracking and resolving hardware and software problems in a ticketing system to ensure service delivery fulfillment. This includes Windows Desktop Platforms, Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Office 365, Endpoint Management Software & Solutions, Microsoft Teams, VoIP Phones, Network & Server Equipment, Microcomputer PC Laptop & Tablets, Printers/MFP's, Cabling, Imaging, Configuring & Deploying Workstations, Mobile Devices and other technologies. In addition, this position will manage user and computer objects in Active Directory, Group Policy, and may assist in maintaining, installing & monitoring servers, routers, switches and other server room equipment. This position collaborates with other IT positions to assist with intrusion remediation, following security best practices. Requirements

  • Knowledge of the operation, management, and maintenance of network and telecommunication systems and linked systems and peripherals.
  • Formulates objectives and priorities; implements plans consistent with the long-term interests of the organization in a global environment. Capitalizes on opportunities and manages risks.
  • Knowledge of systems life cycle management concepts used to plan, develop, implement, operate, and maintain information systems.
  • Effectively applies technical knowledge to solve a range of problems; develops technical solutions to new or highly complex problems that cannot be solve using existing methods or approaches; is sought out as an expert to provide advice or solutions in the technical area.
  • Training and progressive experience in installing new computers, printers, and other peripheral devices; loading and troubleshooting software and hardware systems, maintaining security software, and configuring network settings for workstations.
  • Valid Driver's License is required.
  • The incumbent will need a Transportation Worker´s Identification Card (TWIC), which requires a background check in order to work in restricted areas on the ferries.
