Fundamentals of Microbiology with Lab (BIOS-242) Location- Chamberlain Phoenix Campus Lectures: Monday 2pm-4:50pm Labs: Wednesdays 2pm-4:50pm Start date- Monday September 22 This course covers basic concepts of microbiology, with emphasis on medically important microorganisms and infectious diseases. Also addressed are microscopy, microbial growth and genetics, antimicrobial agents, epidemiology and immune system responses to pathogens. Lab exercises focus on aseptic techniques, isolation and culture of microorganisms, microscopy and staining techniques. Topics include: Basic anatomical and directional terminology, muscle tissues, fundamental concepts and principles of cell biology, history and the integumentary and skeletal systems Fundamental concepts and principles of the muscular and nervous systems, special senses and the endocrine system Cardiovascular, immune and respiratory systems Digestive, urinary and reproductive systems Courses may meet one or two times per week during the daytime or evenings for eight weeks. Commitment is on a course-by-course basis.
