About The Position

Join our Microbiology team at our corporate headquarters in Westfield, Wisconsin, where you'll play an important role in supporting food safety and quality across our operations nationwide! Job Overview: The Microbiology Lab Technician I plays an essential role in supporting food safety and quality at Brakebush Brothers. In this position, you will perform routine microbiological testing and assist with a variety of laboratory analyses that support our production operations. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • HACCP certified or be willing to complete HACCP certification within 1 year.
  • Complete the lab training check list in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work with Microbiology Technician II and/or Lab Management and prioritize work appropriately.
  • Occasional Saturday work may be required and must be flexible in switching days and/or shifts as needed to accommodate testing needs.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Regulatory compliance knowledge, including USDA regulations, HACCP, GMP.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office software.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with and support other departments in a team-oriented environment.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test and background check are required.
  • Applicants must have the legal authorization to work for any employer in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in relevant science fields (i.e. Microbiology, Food Sciences, etc.)
  • Previous Microbiology Lab experience.
  • Experience working in the Food or Poultry industry.

Responsibilities

  • Collect product and environmental samples and perform routine analyses while utilizing Good Laboratory Practices, (GLP’s) and identifies microbiological food safety issues and review of related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Works with Microbiology Lab Technician II and/or Lab Management on an ongoing basis to help maintain or improve the level of safety within the microbiology lab.
