About The Position

The Laboratory Technical Supervisor assists Manager and Administrative Director of the department with the day to day operations of the hematology section/department which includes: managing personnel, maintain consistent staffing levels, developing and monitoring daily quality control, quality assurance and proficiency testing programs; developing and evaluating laboratory methodologies, protocols and techniques; overseeing care, maintenance, and utilization of department equipment, supplies, and inventories. Performs clinical testing as needed. Prepares and develops department for accrediting agency inspections.

Requirements

  • Clinical Laboratory Scientist, or Histotechnician, or Histotechnologist, or Medical Lab Scientist
  • Bachelors Degree
  • Supervisor Experience is Preferred
  • 5 Years or More Experience as a MLS, MT or CLS is Required

Responsibilities

  • Supports Managers and Administrative Director in personnel activities that may include interviewing, work allocation, orientation and training, staff development, problem resolution, evaluating performance (conducts annual feedbacks), making recommendations for personnel actions, and motivating employees to achieve peak performance.
  • Understands laboratory methods, demonstrates knowledge of pathological processes with correlation of disease states and test results.
  • Assures compliance with accrediting agencies; understands and applies CQI principles; anticipates needs and develops, implements, and evaluates quality assurance programs.
  • Develops and evaluates laboratory methodologies, procedures and techniques in the area of clinical specialty.
  • Acts as a resource to customers, both within the department and outside the department, on testing methods and procedures, and laboratory operations, safety and training.
  • Oversees ordering, care, maintenance and utilization of department equipment, supplies, and inventories.
  • Manages special projects to include developing a plan, coordinating necessary resources, setting project timelines, keeping Manager informed of progress, and completing project within established time limits.
  • Develops, implements, evaluates programs for section/department orientation, competency and training; validates competency of co-workers or subordinates.
  • Attends Leadership Skills courses; puts new knowledge, understanding, or skill to practical use on the job.
  • Supports the mission and vision of the Memorial Health University Health System and demonstrates excellent customer service at all times.

  • Must learn, comply with, and enforce System and facility safety policies and rules.
