About The Position

We are seeking a Microbiology Specialist I, also referred to as a Microbiology Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist – Microbiology. The Microbiology Specialist I requires a strong foundation in microbiological techniques, critical thinking skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively within a healthcare team. This role plays a vital part in identifying infectious organisms and supporting accurate diagnoses, directly contributing to patient treatment and infection prevention efforts. Requirements

  • Possession of a current and valid state Clinical Laboratory Scientist license or limited state Clinical Laboratory Scientist license as a Microbiologist Specialist if the laboratory is located in a state where required
  • Bachelor's Degree in chemical, physical, biological science, or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution, or other educational requirements as stated in CLIA (42 CFR 493.1489)

Nice To Haves

  • CLS/MT generalist with 1-yr microbiology experience or Microbiologist Specialist preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform microbiological testing on patient specimens such as blood, urine, wound cultures, respiratory samples, and other bodily fluids to detect and identify microorganisms
  • Culture, isolate, and identify bacteria, fungi, parasites, and other pathogens using established laboratory methods and instrumentation
  • Analyze and report test results, including antimicrobial susceptibility findings, ensuring accuracy and timely communication to support patient care decisions
  • Maintain quality control procedures, prepare media and reagents, and calibrate microbiology equipment to ensure reliable laboratory operations
  • Accurately document testing activities in the laboratory information system and ensure compliance with hospital policies, safety standards, and accreditation requirements
