About The Position

As a Microbiology Laboratory Technician at IDEXX BioAnalytics, you will be a key contributor at one of the largest veterinary diagnostic companies in the world. You will perform microbiology laboratory testing that helps serve professionals in the biomedical and life science fields across the United States. IDEXX BioAnalytics, Inc., a division of IDEXX Laboratories, Inc. is a leader in diagnostic testing for both the biomedical and life science market. The laboratory is based in Columbia, Missouri and employs approximately 70 people. In This Role: You will be using laboratory diagnostic tools to perform analyses and tests aimed to help specialists to diagnose animal illnesses. You will be part of a crew where teamwork is important. You will be responsible for setting up and reading microbiology cultures and reading the results per the laboratory’s SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures). You can expect to specialize in the following areas: Microbiology Culture Setup Interpretation of bacterial and fungal colony morphologies Identification of bacteria and fungi using MALDI-TOF MS and/or biochemical testing Performing antibiotic sensitivity testing Making microbiology culture media Performing other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • A 4-year degree in a Science-related field is preferred, or current coursework.
  • ​Analytical thinking while operating laboratory instruments and during data interpretation
  • Good organizational skills with ability to multi-task
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Positive, can-do attitude
  • Ability to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) as appropriate
  • Motivation to acquire new laboratory skills to meet business needs
  • Extensive sitting, phone, and computer use
  • Capable of standing continuously for up to 2 hours
  • Extend and reach with hands and arms and use hands and fingers
  • Occasionally required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel or crouch
  • May be required to lift, move and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Ability to communicate verbally on phone and in person
  • Extended hours may be required
  • Reliable and dependable attendance is an essential function of the position.
