The Microbiologist is responsible for preparing, conducting and interpreting microbiological testing evaluations on a wide variety of commercial products with Intertek procedures, U.S., Canadian, and other international test standards. The candidate will work closely with their department manager.

Requirements

  • 4 yr Bachelor degree in a Biological Science, preferably in Microbiology
  • Experience culturing and cultivating organisms
  • Ability to identify problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
  • Excellent communication skills, in both verbal and written formats
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work independently in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year experience performing testing with bacteria, mold, and fungus, preferred
  • Experience with current market test standards (ASTM, BAM, USP, or ISO) a plus

Responsibilities

  • Conduct contamination assessment by preparing and plating samples for Total Plate Count, Yeast and Mold, E. Coli, Salmonella, etc…
  • Conduct Probiotic Assays using appropriate agar and preparations conditions
  • Perform allergen assessments by ELISA to ensure safety
  • Perform GMO analysis using PCR
  • Conduct challenge studies to assess anti-microbial properties of material
  • Prepare and sterilize equipment, glassware, and media to ensure aseptic conditions.
  • Monitor and manage lab supplies, ordering what is needed to ensure continuous operation.
  • Adhere strictly to safety protocols, calibrating instruments and validating test methods.
  • Accurately record and document all observations, data, and results in lab notebooks and electronic systems.
