About The Position

Nalco Water, an Ecolab Company, is seeking a highly motivated and creative scientist to join our innovation efforts as a Microbiologist within the Global High Tech – Data Centers group based in Naperville, IL. In this role, you will execute microbiological experiments and, as needed, support routine chemical laboratory work to enable products and program innovations. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in microbiology or a related field
  • Experience working in lab environment with analytical equipment
  • Strong understanding of microbiological analyses and processes
  • Ability to safely work with BSL2 level organisms
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • A high attention to detail and quality results
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task, work independently, and as part of a team

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in microbial ecology, biofilm assays, and non-model organism work
  • Ability to successfully communicate complex information in an easy-to-understand format – including reports and presentations to leadership

Responsibilities

  • Plan and perform relevant experiments and interpret results to develop solutions to complex microbiological problems related to Ecolab’s Data Center coolant portfolio
  • Frequently work with BSL2 level organisms utilizing novel experimental techniques as well as more standardized inhibition experiments, biofilm assays, and molecular biology-based assays.
  • Assist other divisional microbiologists in maintaining the lab through routine laboratory maintenance (reagent prep, inventory management, waste disposal, organization, etc.).
  • In collaboration with other scientists, develop new microbiology programs, products, and analytical tools to solve customer problems.
  • Appropriately document and communicate all research and support activities using electronic laboratory notebooks (ELNs), formal/informal reports, and presentations.
  • Ensure that all research activities are performed with safety as the top priority.
