About This Role: The Microbiologist II uses their science-based education, experience, and skill set to work as part of a team within the medical device site microbiology group at the Boston Scientific Maple Grove-Weaver Lake campus. They ensure that all investigations, testing activities, and data analysis is performed at the highest level of quality while also supporting device sustaining and new development projects that drive business needs. Time management, organization, and planning skills are utilized while working with management and senior level microbiologist guidance to develop their schedule and meet requirements.

  • Serving on device project teams as the microbiology representative to provide input for testing (e.g., timelines, costs associated, and report generation).
  • Create new and revise existing procedures, forms, and investigational study protocols.
  • Assist with investigations related to test method issues or test limit excursions.
  • Act as technical liaison with both internal and external test labs.
  • Perform NCEP/CAPA investigations relating to test method issues, test limit excursions, or other non-conforming events.
  • Performance of routine testing activities such as environmental monitoring within ISO controlled environments (airborne particulate and airborne/surface microbial), water systems testing, compressed gas testing, and other tests as assigned by senior leadership.
  • Accurately document test results.
  • Participate in lab continuous improvement projects.
  • Develop and execute equipment qualification plans for new and existing systems as well as coordinate equipment calibrations and preventative maintenance.
  • Maintain clear and effective communication with internal and external contacts.
  • Assist with activities necessary for the on-going maintenance of the laboratory, including: sample log in supply management equipment maintenance laboratory cleaning
  • Availability greater than 40hrs/wk when needed or requested by lab management may be required.
  • Occasional travel between sites (up to 20 miles) may be required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree with 1-2 years of relevant work experience within med device (or an advanced degree (MS or equivalent) with 0-2 years of relevant work experience within med device).
  • Experience working in microbiology or ISO controlled environments.
  • Experience developing assessments and executing testing plans (with associated reports) for sustaining and new product development device projects.
