About The Position

The Mental Health Emergency Assessment and Response Team (MHEART) Clinician is responsible for delivering rapid mental health crisis assessment and intervention as a core partner in the University’s mobile co-responder program. Working alongside campus police, the clinician leads after-hours responses to mental health emergencies, provides immediate support to students in crisis or impacted by crime, and ensures timely evaluation, stabilization, and referral. While administratively housed within the Counseling Center, the MHEART Clinician collaborates closely with the University of Maryland Police Department and serves as a first responder both on and off campus. The role includes a combination of in-person and on-call coverage, requiring the ability to report to campus quickly, and contributes to one of the nation’s first university-based mobile crisis response models. Physical Demands: Standard office work.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree from an accredited college or university or Master’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Five (5) years of clinical practice in total, including experience gained throughout the Educational training or Two (2) years of clinical experience in an ambulatory mental health setting.
  • Licensed or license-eligible to practice psychology in the State of Maryland within 1 year from hire or Licensed or license-eligible as a mental health provider in the State of Maryland.
  • Knowledge of individual and group psychotherapy, counseling, diagnostic assessment, psychological and career testing, consultation, outreach, and crisis intervention.
  • Knowledge of group psychodynamics and supervision.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.
