About The Position

UW Medicine is actively recruiting for MHA Administrative Interns for Summer 2026 Internship opportunities. The UW Medicine Administrative Internship is a 10‑week program for first-year students in the University of Washington Master’s in Health Administration program who are pursuing careers in healthcare leadership. Interns gain practical, hands‑on experience in key areas such as hospital administration, finance, information technology, clinical quality, and strategic planning. Through a combination of project work, observational learning, and structured development sessions, interns learn directly from experienced healthcare executives while building the skills needed to address the complex challenges of today’s health systems. Each intern is paired with a sponsor (a senior leader) and a preceptor (day-to-day supervisor) who provide mentorship, project guidance, and professional support Internships are hosted within a specific UW Medicine department and may be offered in an onsite or hybrid format. The program prepares participants for future leadership roles by providing exposure to diverse healthcare operations and specialized areas.

Requirements

  • Skills, knowledge, and abilities typically acquired through the completion of the first of the UW Master of Health Administration program.
  • Candidates must be enrolled in the above stated program.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with preceptor and sponsor to establish mutually agreed upon goals that build skills and apply classroom learning.
  • Assist with project management, including tracking milestones, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Contribute to departmental initiatives by owning specific tasks or components of projects.
  • Collaborative with other departments, teams and/or interns on a joint project.
  • Attend meetings, training sessions and development workshops; build communication and presentation skills and gain exposure to various healthcare operations.
  • Conduct financial, operational, quality, and project-specific data analysis to monitor KPIs, evaluate performance, identify improvement opportunities, and present actionable recommendations to leadership.
  • Participate in organizational change management efforts related to new systems, applications, processes or updates.
  • Document and improve workflows, develop process flow maps, and recommend enhancements to increase efficiency and regulatory compliance.
  • Research and present best practices on varying topics.
  • Other duties which will contribute to the success of the internship as they arise.
