Requirements

  • High school Diploma/GED required; Associate's Degree preferred
  • To be eligible to be certified as a Peer Recovery Supporter (PRS) in the State of Ohio, you must have a direct lived experience of mental health and/or substance use issues. “Direct lived experience” means that you are personally in recovery from a mental health and/or substance use issue (having a friend or family member in recovery does not qualify).
  • Driver's License and appropriate automobile insurance
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Displays good customer service skills with clients and community at large
  • Utilizes computer well enough to perform clinical documentation in Carelogic (MISsystem) directly, as well as generate written documentation in WORD or via email

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. However, this position works in the community including private residences, etc. Ability to maneuver over uneven or cluttered surfaces required. Ability to tolerate noxious smells, pets, etc. sometimes required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk, and hear, sometimes in harsh weather conditions. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must have a valid driver's license to drive a motor vehicle and a safe driving record. Employee must be comfortable driving vehicle in varied weather conditions found in the geographic region and must be willing to transport clients to various locations within and outside of the county.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain project logs, reports and records in appropriate files and database(s)
  • Provide recovery education to individuals for every phase of the recovery journey from pre­recovery engagement, recovery initiation, recovery stabilization, and sustained recoverymaintenance
  • Provide a model for both people in recovery and staff by demonstrating that recovery is possible
  • Assist individuals to identify their personal interests, goals, strengths and weaknesses regarding recovery
  • Assist individuals in developing their own plan for advancing their recovery
  • Promote self-advocacy by assisting individuals in expressing their voice, needs, goals andobjectives
  • Actively identify and support linkages to community resources ( communities of recovery,educational, vocational, social, cultural, spiritual resources, mutual self-help groups, professional services, etc.) that support the individual's goals and interests
  • Support connections to community based, mutual self-help groups
  • Link individuals to appropriate professional resources
  • Provide vision-driven hope and encouragement for opportunities at varying levels of involvement in community based activities ( e.g., work, school, relationships, physical activity, self-directed hobbies, etc.)
  • Identify barriers (internal and external) to full participation in community resources anddeveloping strategies to overcome those barriers
  • Provides education and support to client's family members and significant othersregarding client's diagnosis, mental health condition, and how they can assist client tomeet treatment goals
  • Advocates for the rights and dignity of the client in the community
  • Maintains efficient and timely clinical documentation
  • Participates in the assessment of program needs and peer review, as well as cooperate with performance improvement objectives
  • Complies with supervision requirements and works within responsible scope of practice
