About The Position

Designs, develops, and implements testing methods and equipment. Plans and arranges the labor, schedules, and equipment required for testing and evaluating standard and special devices. Provides test area with parameters for sample testing and specifies tests to be performed. Compiles data and defines changes required in testing equipment, testing procedures, manufacturing processes, or new testing requirements. Responsible for testing all customer samples and for special tests that cannot be performed in the test area. Manage the operations of the Hull, Mechanical and Electrical Test Program, for Virginia Class Submarines. This position will manage the test program for NNS Final Assembly and Test Shipbuilder (FATS) submarines. Plan and execute the test program within cost, schedule, safety and quality requirements. Hire, train and engage staff to meet the production schedule. Develop and approve technical guidance, including test procedures, operating instructions and engineering/design correspondence. Interface with various customer oversight organizations, including the Ship’s Force, SupShip, the NAVSEA Program Office and Naval Reactors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or the required certification and 6 years of relevant professional/exempt experience.
  • Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
  • The required certifications must be Lead Test Engineer (LTE), Shift Test Engineer (STE), Ship Safety Officer (SSO).
  • Inactivation Test Engineer (ITE) certification, or Shift Refueling Engineer (SRE).
