Provides centralized engineering leadership and coordination for quality and manufacturing issues that cross product lines. As technical engineering expert, maintains cognizance over and acts on behalf of the Company with regard to technical activities in the assigned AoR . Has delegated decision making authority for the company and apprises the Director, Chief Engineer on the final decisions. Technical – This individual serves as the Company’s technical authority for standards related to structural engineering across all programs, and clearly understands how it interrelates with each facet of the value stream. This position requires extensive knowledge in the design and construction of both aircraft carrier and submarine structures. The position requires familiarity with the multiple standards, analyses and specifications used in existing and clean-sheet ship design. The position requires a detailed understanding of the operational scenarios for which the design is constructed to ensure limiting events are properly studied during design, testing, resolution of issues, and identification of risks. This individual provides rapid resolution of complex and/or cross-platform technical issues via a technical oversight role, while mentoring the Lead Material Investigators and team members. The position serves as the primary interface with the customer for numerous high-visibility independent review teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and 8 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering and design; Master's Degree and 6 years of relevant experience; PhD and 4 years of relevant experience
  • Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
  • US Citizenship Required for this Position
  • Clearance Required: Yes- Final Clearance Required to Start

  • Experience in submarine hull design is desired.
