About The Position

This leader holds operational accountability and oversight, managing the daily activities of Sarasota Memorial Health Care System (SMHCS) Respiratory Care Services. The role involves modeling positive leadership behavior, ensuring successful completion of team tasks and projects, and supporting departmental and organizational goals. The leader acts as an ambassador for International Fellowships within the Respiratory Care profession, possessing knowledge of respiratory and healthcare delivery in the US. Key responsibilities include developing an annual application for the ARCF (American Respiratory Care Foundation) and communicating with local Respiratory Care Education programs and the AARC International Respiratory Care Committee, which may require work outside normal clinical hours during peak times. Additionally, the role involves direct respiratory care, including airway management, blood gas sampling, administration of medical gases and inhaled medications, complete ventilator management, and hemodynamic monitoring. Competency maintenance for additional areas of practice will be required.

Requirements

  • BA degree in Respiratory Therapy & 3 years experience as Manager, Respiratory Services or Respiratory Therapist; Valid Florida Licensure as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) & Certification in Basic Life Support/CPR
  • OR Master’s degree in Business Administration or Health Science & 1 year experience as Manager, Respiratory Services, or Respiratory Therapist; Valid Florida Licensure as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) and Certification in Basic Life Support/CPR
  • Valid Florida Licensure as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
  • Certification in Basic Life Support/CPR (BLS)
  • Undergo background screening through The Florida Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of five (5) years of Respiratory Therapy supervisory/management experience
  • Clinical and Business Information Systems and implementation experience
  • Three (3) years of clinical education and quality monitoring experience, including Blood Gas Lab Joint Commission Survey experience
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of personnel and management
  • Master's in business administration, health science, or related field in addition to Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy
