About The Position

The position involves leading and managing all aspects of the Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Management System to ensure alignment with Barnes Global Standards and compliance with all Federal, State, and local regulations. The primary on-site HSE leader will spend more than 50% of their time on the shop floor engaging employees, supervisors, and engineers to strengthen safety culture and proactively drive risk reduction initiatives. Responsibilities include conducting comprehensive risk assessments, managing environmental compliance programs, analyzing site metrics, leading incident investigations, and developing HSE training programs.

Requirements

  • 4-6 years' HSE management experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in identifying and abating critical risks.
  • Demonstrated experience in HSE management systems and process improvement.
  • Understanding of state and federal regulations and standards.
  • Proven track record of success in working with government agencies.
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships.
  • Effective communication skills with all levels of the organization.
  • Substantial functional experience with a successful track record of results.
  • Resourceful and collaborative to foster continuous improvement.
  • Ability to inspire the team to drive productivity increases.
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.
  • Competent in all areas of chemical management.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience leading ISO14001.
  • Experience with OSHA Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP).
  • Working knowledge of homeland security programs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all aspects of the Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Management System.
  • Serve as the primary on-site HSE leader, engaging employees, supervisors, and engineers.
  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments, including JSAs, confined space reviews, PPE evaluations, and machine guarding inspections.
  • Partner cross-functionally with employees and leadership to enhance hazard recognition.
  • Manage all environmental compliance programs and ensure timely submission of required permits.
  • Analyze and report site carbon, water, and waste metrics.
  • Lead incident investigations and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Lead the Site Safety Committee and champion employee engagement.
  • Oversee Workers' Compensation case management.
  • Develop, deliver, and continuously improve HSE training programs.
  • Drive the Management of Change (MOC) Process.
  • Track and report all HSE data in accordance with Barnes standards.
  • Maintain all Hazardous/Non-Hazardous waste training records.
  • Delegate cleaning and maintenance tasks to team members.
  • Monitor the safety and cleanliness of interior and exterior areas.
  • Perform routine maintenance on facilities and make repairs as needed.
  • Schedule routine inspections and emergency repairs with outside vendors.
  • Ensure proper security measures for the workplace.
  • Maintain day-to-day operations of facilities.
  • Create reports on maintenance, repairs, safety and other occurrences.
  • Prepare facilities for changing weather conditions.
  • Collaborate with building owners and upper management on budgeting.
