About The Position

Provides leadership and direction to the Engineering Services staff in line with the organizations vision and values. Develops departmental plans to achieve short term and long-range goals. Provides guidance and support to staff to ensure professional development and to accomplish department objectives. Builds and develops strategic internal/external relationships to help achieve department objectives. Facilitates and encourages the improvement of existing processes, policies and procedures. Monitors and evaluates the performance of the staff to ensure the completion of goals and department objectives. Collaborates with peers within NiSource to ensure effective solutions. Essential Functions Communicates key messages regarding the organizations vision and values Establishes implementation plans for objectives and goals Identifies and explores opportunities to develop or improve internal/external partnerships Identifies areas for departmental improvements and develops plans to achieve them Develops and executes the annual capital program Develops methods to measure the performance of the engineering department that are linked with NiSource business goals Identifies development opportunities for engineering leadership team Develops strategic long-range facility plans Partners with Field Operations, and Compliance to meet state and federal operating codes Partners with appropriate stakeholders to ensure the exceptional delivery of support services Provides superior support to our business partners The Engineering Services department clearly understands the organization vision and values Executes all Engineering Services operating plan objectives and goals Ensures strong strategic internal/external partnerships Implement effective infrastructure capital investment plans that support and align with regulatory strategies Implements effective improvements for existing engineering policies, procedures, and practices Meets annual capital and O&M budget goals Utilizes meaningful metrics to drive performance ensure accountability Continued and progressive development of engineering leadership team Ensures positive relationships with federal, state and municipal agencies Ensures our infrastructure is able to safely and reliably deliver service to all of our customers

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Engineering
  • 4-6 years
  • 5 years operations experience in Regulation, Measurement, Electronic Measurement or Operations Engineering
  • Demonstrated experience in business case analysis
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities in operations department in a technical function
  • Knowledge of company policies and procedures relative to operations
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and compliance issues
  • Familiarity with common computer applications
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with company budgeting processes and systems
  • Demonstrated knowledge & experience in system design
  • Demonstrated knowledge of applicable codes and standard
  • Ability to comprehend and translate technical papers and standards
  • Knowledge & experience of measurement & regulation equipment operation and design
  • Knowledge & experience of transmission pipeline operations and design
  • Demonstrated knowledge of gas operations in land rights interpretation, contracts and construction
  • Understanding of statistical principles and their applications
  • Working knowledge of NiSource policies, procedures and standards
  • Knowledge of gas utility infrastructure
  • Knowledge of safety and compliance regulations
  • Highly skilled in the use of AutoCad, Excel, & design support systems (e.g. Technical Toolbox, GasCalc)
  • Skilled with Word, Excel & PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated ability to incorporate cost saving principals in daily operations
  • Demonstrated competency in budget origination, management and forecasting
  • Understanding of gas supply function & policies and interstate pipeline contracts
  • Understanding of service & tariff conditions to large industrial & commercial transportation customers
  • Thorough knowledge of NiSource compliance and safety issues
  • Proficiency in budgeting and forecasting
  • Professional Engineering license Upon Hire

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree Engineering
  • Engineering and Operations proficiency gained through previous experience
  • Prefer Columbus, but any NiSource off location will work
  • This role is preferred to be based in Columbus, OH. However, candidates may reside within 50 miles of a NiSource reporting office to be eligible for consideration.
