About The Position

This position is responsible for technical leadership and overall project management (cost/schedule/budget) of the Combat and Sonar systems group. This group is primarily focused on new design for combat and sonar systems on next generation submarines. The group will also support new design efforts for legacy classes, including 688/21CL as opportunities arise. This position requires working collaboratively with multiple organizations, including NAVSEA, NUWC, PARMs, Electric Boat, and system developers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering and design; Master's Degree and 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
  • US Citizenship Required for this Position: Yes
  • Clearance Required: Yes- Final Clearance Required to Start

Nice To Haves

  • Previous supervisory or project management experience is preferred
  • Significant experience with submarines and submarine systems; combat, sonar, HM&E experience is  highly desirable.  Prior design experience is desirable but not required.  Operational experience will also be considered.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent project management skills, including a working knowledge of EVMS, Microsoft project, and/or related tools.
  • Familiarity with submarine design process and design tools is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Developing and maintaining the group’s technical and programmatic knowledge to support NNS and Navy objectives
  • Developing and executing strategic plans to support future combat and sonar systems
  • Leading overall technical and programmatic efforts of the group to ensure alignment with customer expectations and Navy needs
  • Driving for exceptional technical quality while ensuring products meet programmatic objectives for schedule and cost
  • Building and maintaining a team to meet existing and future customer demands
