About The Position

The Advanced Propulsion team is looking for a strong team leader to support the development of the next generation fast attack submarine. This is an opportunity to perform new design and have influence over what will be the Navy's premier attack submarine platform. The candidate will be responsible for the technical oversight and leadership of a group of engineers designing submarine turbine generators. Projects will include new supplier development, experience using model based systems engineering, and concept studies exploring new technology development. A strong relationship with Electric Boat, Naval Nuclear Laboratory, and BPMI, or the ability to establish one, are crucial to the success of this role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering and design
  • Master's Degree and 4 years of relevant experience
  • Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program

Nice To Haves

  • Specific knowledge of submarine propulsion plant design.
  • Additional knowledge of CVN 68 Class and CVN 78 Class design is a plus.
  • Direct technical expertise with turbine generators or rotating machinery.
  • Proficient in technical writing. Candidate will be responsible for the review and overall ownership of the team's written deliverables.
  • Strong communication, but written and verbal. Candidate will frequently provide briefs to leadership at NNS and external parties including EB, NNL, BPMI, and Naval Reactors.
  • Operational experience on a commissioned or under construction Navy vessel is a plus.
