About The Position

The MGC Community Print Studio Technician at Powerhouse Arts plays a vital role in the daily operations of the print studio, ensuring a safe and accessible environment for members. Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in printmaking studio technical operations or equivalent experience.
  • Proficient in all areas of printmaking, including silkscreen, lithography, intaglio/etching, relief printing, platemaking, and digital separation techniques.
  • Willingness to work within a community studio setting and share knowledge with artists.
  • Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills with problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to prioritize shifting needs in a busy studio environment.
  • Knowledge of best practices in health and safety, with the ability to work safely with hazardous chemicals.
  • Basic understanding of press operation and maintenance.
  • Basic understanding of studio maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Wix, Constant Contact, and Google Suite.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional learning.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in community engagement or outreach programs.
  • Familiarity with additional printmaking techniques or digital tools.

Responsibilities

  • Create a safe and accessible work environment for members.
  • Provide assistance and service to members, including studio orientation and distribution of materials.
  • Help with various printmaking processes and provide technical assistance.
  • Monitor and educate members on health and safety best practices and proper equipment use.
  • Process material purchases and credit card transactions related to studio use.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining user-friendly signage and instructions for processes and equipment.
  • Support teaching faculty in facilitating workshops in classrooms and studio.
  • Mix chemicals while maintaining safe storage and disposal practices.
  • Maintain equipment and furniture in the studio.
  • Collaboratively clean the studio daily and complete clerical tasks as needed.
  • Train and direct the work of studio monitors.
  • Execute opening and/or closing checklist depending on work schedule.
  • Participate in executing print fabrication projects as needed.
  • Research and develop innovative fabrication techniques.
  • Collaborate with other staff and departments on projects as needed.
  • Participate in Powerhouse Arts events and shop tours.
