About The Position

The MFT and MSW Clinical Intern is responsible for delivering mental health services, which may include psychological assessments, individual, couple/family or group psychotherapy, crisis intervention, treatment planning, attending and participating in clinical supervision, and completing training as determined by the clinical supervisor and Tarzana Treatment Centers. Practicum Trainees are required to work a minimum of sixteen (16) hours per week with a nine-month commitment, with twenty (20) hours a week and a one-year commitment preferred.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and current enrollment in a graduate program in the field of Psychology, Counseling or Behavioral Sciences.
  • Prior experience in providing substance abuse and/or mental health services, although not mandatory, is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and demonstrate appropriate skills in conducting psychological assessments of patients, including a clinical diagnostic interview, mental status exam, diagnosis, and write up of the assessment.
  • Develop and demonstrate appropriate skills in treatment, including administering and tracking outcome measures that indicate progress as determined by agency standards, and discharge planning.
  • Develop and demonstrate appropriate skills in determining diagnoses and treatment recommendations based on knowledge and identification of signs and symptoms of psychological disorders.
  • Provide individual therapy, with opportunities to provide couple, family, and/or group psychotherapy.
  • Provide crisis intervention services or counseling, psychological emergency interventions and assessments, as appropriate per level of training.
  • Develop and demonstrate appropriate skills and knowledge of current legal standards pertaining to professional practice, reporting requirements (i.e., suspected abuse; Tarasoff), professional boundaries and related issues.
  • Attend weekly group supervision meetings as requested.
  • Attend individual supervision sessions as scheduled with supervisors.
  • Attend specific trainings as requested.
  • Maintain proper documentation of training hours and obtaining supervisors signatures as required.
  • Document clinical information obtained through provision of clinical services rendered, and obtain signature of supervisors on all documentation.
  • Demonstrate ability to conceptualize cases and prioritize treatment needs as evidenced by clinical documentation.
  • Perform additional functions as specifically requested by Clinical Supervisor of the program to meet special patient needs, as necessary.
