We are seeking a Summer/Fall Co-op - Metrology Engineer Intern to support second shift (2 PM–11 PM) metrology operations in a research and development lab environment. This internship is designed for an undergraduate Materials Science or related engineering student who is interested in gaining hands-on experience with advanced materials characterization and semiconductor metrology tools. The intern will work closely with engineers and technicians to perform measurements, support data collection, and assist with daily lab operations while developing practical skills in materials characterization.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Physics, or a related field
  • Expected graduation: December 2026 or Spring 2027
  • Completed coursework in: Crystal structures Materials properties
  • Willing and able to work second shift (2 PM – 11 PM) for the duration of the internship
  • Comfortable working in a laboratory and cleanroom environment
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow technical procedures

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience or academic lab exposure to one or more of the following metrology techniques: Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) X-ray Diffraction / X-ray Reflectivity (XRD/XRR) Spectroscopic Ellipsometry (SE) Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) Focused Ion Beam (FIB)
  • Experience handling wafers or small samples in a controlled environment
  • Familiarity with basic data analysis and technical documentation

Responsibilities

  • Perform metrology measurements in a lab and cleanroom environment
  • Support operation and data collection on materials characterization tools
  • Preform basic tool trouble shooting and log service calls
  • Follow established lab procedures, safety protocols, and cleanroom practices
  • Document measurement results and support basic data analysis
  • Collaborate with engineers and technicians to support ongoing experiments and tool utilization during second shift operations
