MISSION: To create computer programs and applications to verify specified dimensional measurements on development and production parts in order to assure compliance with customer specifications, and PCC and industrial standards, using Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) and conventional measuring devices; to inspect new and revised tools and fixtures to assure compliance with specifications; to prepare layout and calibration documentation. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: 1. Layout Inspection Objective: to position and measure specified dimensional features of selected casting, dies, wax molds and fixtures, and verify dimensional integrity using CMM machines and conventional measuring equipment. Essential Job Functions: A. Identifies and interprets casting dimensions on blueprints. B. Constructs three-dimensional plane coordinates for measurement reference as defined on blueprints. C. Completes a variety of mathematical calculations, including technical math, analytic geometry and trigonometry. D. Measures and records specified dimensions using CMM's and conventional equipment to verify dimensional integrity. E. Prepares and reviews layout reports describing all measurements taken. F. Compares and analyzes measurements to customer requirements, PCC and industry standards. G. Evaluates measurement data with Engineering Departments and identifies probable causes of deviation. H. Inspects new and reprocessed tools and fixtures as directed to assure compliance with dimensional specifications. Other (Marginal) Job Functions: I. Conducts source inspections at tooling and fixture vendors; reviews vendor inspection techniques to verify accuracy and completeness of vendor layout reports and inspections. J. Performs fixture calibrations; maintains complete and accurate records of calibration results. 2. Computer Programming and Applications Objective: to create inspection programs, routines, macros, files and reports; to manipulate and direct data files. Essential Job Functions: A. Uses low-level computer language and CMM operational codes to create part inspection programs, routines, data base files and customized printed reports. B. Manipulates ASCII and IGES files and directs data transmission to requesting departments as required. C. Generates inspection data using Computer Aided Drafting (CAD). (LSBO and TBO only) D. Prepares inspection plans and creates automated CMM inspection programs to inspect parts, wax patterns or fixtures per customer specifications. E. Documents CMM inspection program output and usage instructions. 3. Safety Objective: to take responsibility for and demonstrate safe work practices. Essential Job Functions: A. Adheres to plant and department safety rules. B. Safely operates all equipment and tools. C. Identifies and reports safety problems. OTHER (MARGINAL) ACCOUNTABILITIES: 4.
