About The Position

The work the people of Metro do every day benefits the lives of the people who live here, today, and tomorrow. Metro Paint is looking for variable hour operations technicians. These technicians work as part of a team that opens and color sorts used latex paint, performs color mixing and quality testing to create batches of new recycled paint, and packages and ships the finished product for sale and donation in the community. Technicians use personal protective equipment (PPE) provided by Metro that is appropriate for the job such as safety glasses, steel toe boots, Tyvek suits, and nitrile gloves. In addition to processing paint, technicians may also operate forklifts and pallet jacks, perform equipment maintenance, manage inventory, and assist customers on the sales floor.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • One year of experience in paint recycling or paint manufacturing; OR any combination of education, professional, volunteer and lived experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the classification duties and responsibilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with pallet jacks, forklifts, drum dollies, or other material handling equipment.
  • A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • Bilingual language skills in English and Spanish, Russian, or other language commonly spoken in the region.

Responsibilities

  • Manually identify, sort, and bulk quarts, gallons and five-gallon containers of incoming latex paint into large containers while wearing full body personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Filter, chemicalize, and package recycled latex paint for retail sales, wholesale, and donations.
  • Assist in the management, storage, and inventory of incoming latex paint, wire cages, pallets, lab testing supplies, production supplies, assorted retail items, and/or recycled paint.
  • Safely utilize and operate equipment necessary for work including lift trucks, pallet jacks, pneumatic mixers, lift table, can opener, and/or bucket buster.
  • Assist in the shipping and receiving of operation materials in accordance with standard operating procedures, safety protocols, and Department of Transportation regulations.
  • Assist in the daily accurate documentation of recycling operations data including paint batch production, shipping manifests, laboratory testing, and/or paint processing.
  • Provide consistent clear communication with coworkers and supervisors within and beyond program area.
  • Perform regular cleaning and preventative maintenance of work area and equipment.
