Reporting to the Director, Field Service Project Management and Senior Manager, Field Service Project Management, Ciena's Metro Technicians perform tasks relevant to the addition and removal of optical, DCN, power, etc., equipment on live and non-live networks. You'll work hands-on with cutting-edge optical and power equipment in live network environments, ensuring seamless service delivery for our customers. You'll be part of a collaborative, high-performance team that values safety, quality, and ownership. This is a role for someone who thrives on travel, solving technical problems, and making a real impact every day. The successful candidate must be prepared for considerable overtime. This may include working over 50 hours per week, including travel time, depending on project needs and travel itineraries. Overtime pay is provided in accordance with federal and state labor laws

Requirements

  • Education: High School Diploma (post-secondary technical training preferred)
  • Experience: Previous experience installing network hardware from multiple vendors
  • Travel: Ability to travel extensively across the US (up to 100%)
  • Technical Skills: Understanding of fiber optics and DC power
  • Comfortable with cabling, racking, and module installation
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Soft Skills: Strong time management and communication skills
  • Detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and able to work independently
  • Able to problem-solve and escalate issues when needed
  • You will be required to lift 40+ pounds regularly, and should be comfortable with climbing ladders
  • You will be required to be in Las Vegas for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Install, remove, and test optical, DCN, and power equipment on both live and offline networks
  • Read and interpret Engineering Design Packages (EDPs), Visio drawings, and Methods of Procedure (MoPs)
  • Perform fiber work (run, clean, remove patch cords, terminate to FDPs)
  • Execute DC power cabling and -48DC live system work
  • Conduct rectifier/PDU installations and removals
  • Assist with basic testing of hardware and complete all documentation accurately and on time
  • Ensure job sites are clean, safe, and fully stocked with required materials/tools
  • Perform on-site audits and quality inspections (including virtual audits)
  • Safely operate company/rented vehicles and follow all safety and ESD protocols
  • Communicate effectively with site leads, project managers, remote testers, and customers
