About The Position

The Method Development Chemist is responsible for creating analytical methods for all instrumentation in the lab so that data is accurate on a wide variety of routine and non-routine samples. This position complies with all policies and procedures to ensure consistent conformance to all customer expectations are met and ensures that all analytical results are approved and reported in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • High familiarity with analytical techniques and instrumentation used in the Analytical Lab (ICP-AES, ICP-MS, XRD, XRF, UV-Vis, AA, TOC, Ion Chromatograph).
  • Familiarity with computers, instrument software, and database software (Access is a plus).
  • Bachelor’s degree in a Science required, chemistry preferred.
  • Valid Driver’s License and good driving record required to drive company vehicles on property.

Responsibilities

  • Create and research instrument capabilities to create working methods that best suit the needs of the laboratory.
  • Write and periodically update Standard Operating Procedures for all laboratory activities.
  • Perform routine and non-routine maintenance on instrumentation and record all changes or modifications performed.
  • Review analytical results and QC data for quality, research any discrepancies, and report any anomalous results to the Analytical Laboratory Supervisor.
  • Become proficient with analytical techniques and instrumentation including XRF, ICP-AES, ICP-MS, XRD, UV-Vis, AA, TOC, Ion Chromatograph, and physical properties analysis.
  • Create and maintain a training regiment for all new hires and be in charge of periodical retraining for existing employees.
  • Assist in tracking and maintaining the chemical reagent inventory.
  • Clean and maintain workstation(s) after use and help to ensure laboratory instrumentation/equipment is in safe working order.
  • Perform lab housekeeping and routine inspections.
  • Prioritize all analytical work with the Analytical Laboratory Supervisor and communicate with other departments as needed for efficient laboratory operations.
  • Actively participate in the safety management programs and adhere to all appropriate laboratory safety and operations procedures. Also comply with all health, environmental, and safety. regulations, company policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Flexible shifts and hours may be required based on operational needs.
  • Maintain safe work practices.
  • Complete any other tasks as needed or directed by management.
