About The Position

The Meter Specialist at American Water is responsible for the operation and maintenance of water meters and related equipment, ensuring efficient service to customers. This role involves a variety of tasks including installation, testing, maintenance, and repair of meters, as well as customer service responsibilities. The position requires working outdoors and may involve overtime and on-call duties.

Requirements

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
• Valid Driver's License and ability to pass motor vehicle background check.

Responsibilities

• Installs, tests, maintains, repairs, and removes water meters and related equipment.
• Investigates high and low consumption, detects leaks, and investigates cross-connections and irregularities in customer piping.
• Collects water samples and performs customer service work or assists in those tasks.
• Installs, tests, maintains, repairs, and removes gauges, recorders, cross-connections, and backflow control devices.
• Locates, inspects, adjusts, and repairs service stop boxes and valve boxes.
• Leads and directs the activities of any assigned personnel.
• Ensures that work of assigned personnel is done in accordance with prescribed methods and in an efficient and safe manner.
• Legibly and accurately fills out customer service tickets, test cards, meter tags, time sheets, and vehicle reports.
• Reports hazards and irregularities on customer property.
• Drives company vehicles and maintains necessary Indiana driver license.
• Inventories meters, parts, and supplies, and notifies supervisor of depletion.
• Assists and instructs other employees as directed.
