About The Position

Providing Life’s Most Precious Resource. We’re looking for a key person to join our team as a Meter Services Technician II. The Meter Services Technician II is responsible for entry-level work in testing, maintaining, and repairing water meters in the district. This position assists in ensuring that meters are fully functional and accurately record water usage by performing repairs, exchanges, and maintenance tasks and to give guidance to Meter Technician I . The role contributes to the accuracy and proper functioning of utility water meters, including registers, radios, meter cans, and lids. Key responsibilities include installing, removing, repairing, and testing water meters; programming and troubleshooting remote metering equipment; turning water services on or off; and investigating customer concerns regarding water meters. This work is performed under the general supervision of the Meter Services Supervisor Crew Leader.

Requirements

  • A High School diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
  • Minimum of (2) two years of prior experience is required with a Class C Water License. In lieu of (2) two years of experience, (1) one year of prior experience and 40 hours of certified classroom hours along with a Class C water license, and a general understanding of water systems, or plumbing is beneficial.
  • Must have a Class C Water Operator License and participate in continuing education to maintain license.
  • Must have a valid Class "C" Driver's License before employment (must obtain Texas Class "C" driver's license within 30 days of hire per state law).
  • Successful completion of background check, drug screening and employment verification
  • Be available for on-call duties during evenings or weekends as required.
  • The role frequently requires working outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and wind.
  • Regular exposure to hazardous conditions is a part of the job. This includes working near heavy machinery, potentially harmful chemicals, and in environments where safety protocols must be strictly followed to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • The role involves significant physical activity, such as walking, standing, climbing, and bending, occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds often on uneven terrain and various weather elements.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional coursework or training in water utility operations, management, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in water, electrical, or gas meter reading, or installation is preferred, but not mandatory.
  • Ability to continue Water Industry education and show strong leadership qualities.

Responsibilities

  • Water Meter Operations: Responsible for installing, troubleshooting, calibrating, and removing water meters, accurately recording data, and coordinating meter information entry into the utility billing system
  • Workflow Management: Process and update work orders daily using the work order system.
  • Safety Compliance: Follow safety regulations, including wearing appropriate clothing and using proper equipment and tools.
  • Site Maintenance: Clean work sites and restore landscaping to its original condition upon project completion. Restore work areas to original or better condition by cleaning up debris, backfilling, and ensuring no trash or materials are left behind.
  • Customer Service: Ensures that appropriate actions are taken to resolve customers’ concerns professionally.
  • Teamwork: Provide guidance to Meter Tech I and assist Meter Tech I with issues that may arise in the field.
