About The Position

WBKO is home to award-winning journalism in the heart of south-central Kentucky between Louisville and Nashville. WBKO is the dominant source for local news and entertainment in the Bowling Green area and operates the ABC, FOX, Telemundo, and CW affiliates. WBKO News is looking for a high-energy Meteorologist who is passionate about severe weather and delivering forecasts on all platforms. The primary role will be to anchor AMKY Live & MidDay Live as well as produce and anchor streaming weather programs.

Requirements

  • Previous on-air experience preferred.
  • BS in Meteorology/Atmospheric Science or related field.
  • An engaging and comfortable on-air personality.
  • Ability to use judgment to prioritize tasks and assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with newsroom managers, producers, and co-workers
  • Ability to report and forecast weather accurately and creatively under deadline pressure.
  • Clean driving record, the ability to drive safely in various weather conditions, and a valid driver's license are mandatory for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • Seals of the National Weather Association and/or American Meteorological Society are preferred
  • Familiarity with the WSI MAX weather system and software is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Analyze weather data and prepare detailed, compelling, and conversational weather forecasts for broadcast, streaming, digital, and social media audiences
  • Generate creative and engaging, content-driven live shots
  • Familiarity with the WSI MAX weather system and software is a plus
  • Ability to drive long-form severe weather/event coverage solo or in a team setting, both in the studio and in the field
  • Ability to multitask, handle breaking news and breaking weather, and adapt to rapidly changing events
  • Cover other meteorologists' shifts as assigned, as well as flexibility to cover shifts during severe weather or other breaking news events
  • Post daily stories to our digital platforms and social media, including online weather discussions to explain complex weather phenomena in an easy-to-understand format
  • Be actively involved on the station's social media platforms and responsive to viewer inquiries
  • Be active in the community by representing the station at events, career fairs, and school talks
  • Work closely with the Chief Meteorologist, news management, and newscast producers
