METEOROLOGIST - WHNS

FOX Carolina NewsWade Hampton, SC

About The Position

FOX Carolina (WHNS-TV) is expanding our award-winning First Alert Weather team in Greenville, SC. We are seeking a professional who excels at scientific analysis and possesses the communication skills to deliver critical weather information across all platforms—from daily newscasts to our streaming and digital platforms. If you love to tell a great story and thrive when the radar turns red, we want to talk to you.

Requirements

  • The Experience: At least 2 years of experience as a broadcast meteorologist (you've been through a few seasons and know the drill).
  • Technical Skill: Command of the WSI MAX system is preferred—we want someone who can make the graphics sing.
  • Credentials: A BS/BA in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or a related field. NWA or AMS seals are a major plus, but your passion and skill matter most.
  • Digital-First Mindset: You understand that the weather doesn't just happen at 6:00 PM; you’re ready to engage on social and streaming throughout the day.
  • Severe Weather: You thrive under pressure and are ready to jump into action when the weather turns unpredictable.
  • Flexibility: You know the weather doesn't follow a 9-to-5 schedule, and you're adaptable with shifts and assignments.
  • Safety First: A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are mandatory—you'll need to navigate various conditions safely.

Responsibilities

  • Own the forecast: Analyze cutting-edge scientific data and models to craft accurate, reliable forecasts for our diverse Upstate and Western North Carolina viewing area.
  • Tell the weather story: Identify the "story of the day" and translate complex meteorological data into clear, conversational narratives that keep our audience prepared.
  • Drive digital engagement: Deliver engaging weather presentations across broadcast, streaming, and social media—meeting our audience wherever they are.
  • Lead in severe weather: Meticulously track and forecast severe events, providing timely, life-saving information with calm authority when it matters most.
  • Visualize the data: Conceptualize and create dynamic graphics using the WSI MAX system to make complex forecasts easy to understand and visually stunning.
  • Collaborate with the team: Work closely with the Chief Meteorologist and news leadership to ensure seamless weather integration across all newscasts.
  • Be a versatile presence: Whether you're in the studio or reporting live from the field, you'll bring the weather story to life wherever it unfolds.
