About The Position

Amentum is seeking a Meteorologist for Range Operations to support the Space Force Range contract. Key Responsibilities Perform surface observations, synoptic evaluations, and upper-air wind editing during launch operations Analyze and edit wind speed and directional data in support of mission activities to ensure the highest quality of data is sent to the launch customer Coordinate launch critical information to the launch customer Analyze current weather conditions and create short-term forecasts to utilize for editing the upper level wind data Support operational testing of meteorological instrumentation Control and develop procedures and instructions for the Cape Weather Station Inventory and purchase weather balloons, radiosondes and parachutes when required Perform inventories and internal audits on government property Perform internal quality audits Complete assigned training and assist with the training of others to ensure optimal availability of qualified personnel for daily operations and launch support Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • BS degree in meteorology, atmospheric sciences, or related discipline
  • Two (2) years of weather forecasting experience in an operations environment
  • Thorough knowledge of upper air wind characteristics
  • MS Windows and MS Office experience
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently in high-stress environments
  • Ability to work well with minimal supervision
  • Ability to interface with all levels of personnel in a diverse, team-orientated environment
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with employees and the public
  • Local travel required between Weather sites on Cape Canaveral Space Force Station
  • Possess visual acuity correctable to 20/20
  • Ability to visually observe clouds
  • Ability to work outdoors in extreme conditions
  • The flexibility to work frequent non-duty hours or on weekends to support specific project or mission requirements
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance, which includes U.S. citizenship
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License

Nice To Haves

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux experience, preferred
  • Experience working on the Eastern/Western Range or military meteorological systems, preferred
