About The Position

Ball State University Facilities Planning and Management has an opportunity to work on the beautiful campus. What you'll do and what you'll bring: Position Function: Under supervision, perform duties related to the fabrication, installation, maintenance, and repair of metal fixtures, equipment and devices of University facilities, complying with appropriate regulations and codes.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
• 1.Successful completion of an apprenticeship program in Welding/Fabrication as approved by the Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training, or at least six (6) years of experience in the Welding/Fabrication trade or equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable job knowledge can be acquired as determined by Ball State University.
• 2.Must be able to read and comprehend all specified policies and procedures for safety, hazardous materials information, University policies, procedures, and communications, and perform mathematical calculations.
• 3.Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License and be insurable under the university’s auto fleet policy.
• 4.Must be able to perform all mental and physical requirements as outlined in each job duty.
• 5.You must be 18 years or older.

Nice To Haves

• Completion of vocational school courses or related metals fabrication.
• 1.Additional welding certifications.
• 2.Experience in pipe welding

Responsibilities

• Perform duties related to the design, fabrication, and layout of various metals and other materials related to facilities and equipment. Requires the physical ability to stoop, bend, crouch, crawl, kneel, stand, grasp, work with hands and arms extended, climb, balance, and exert in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds of force frequently, and 20 pounds of force constantly. Task requires the visual ability to read small print, distinguish color, and perceive depth. Task requires the ability to operate various hand and power tools, welding machines, cutting torches, and cleaning equipment. Employee is exposed to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme heat and cold, noise, dust, heights, confined spaces, and may be required to wear a filter mask, respirator, and various protective clothing and/or equipment. Task requires the mental ability to receive, comprehend, follow, and provide oral instructions and information and to read, comprehend, follow, and provide written instructions and information.
• Weld, solder, braze, silfos, assemble, and join plumbing related materials and fixtures using various welding techniques. Requires the physical ability to stoop, bend, crouch, crawl, kneel, stand, grasp, work with hands and arms extended, climb, balance, and exert in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly. Task requires the ability to operate various hand and power tools and cleaning equipment. Task requires the visual ability to read small print, distinguish color, and perceive depth. • Affix various metals and other materials using appropriate welding techniques, equipment fasteners, and machinery. • Repair and perform preventative maintenance on loading dock equipment, portable power tools, custodial equipment, furniture, small appliances, and hydraulic equipment. Requires the physical ability to stoop, bend, crouch, crawl, kneel, stand, grasp, work with hands and arms extended, climb, balance, and exert in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds of force frequently, and 20 pounds of force constantly. Task requires the visual ability to distinguish color and perceive depth. Task requires the ability to operate hand and power tools, cleaning equipment, welding machines, cutting torches, and Heating Plant instrumentation and testing equipment.
