About The Position

Buys and sells ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal with new and existing customers. This role requires relevant experience in scrap metal trading, recycling, or a related commodities field and is not an entry-level position.

Requirements

  • Self-motivated with a strong drive to meet new suppliers and customers and develop new business
  • 1+ years of experience in scrap metal buying/selling, recycling, commodities trading, or a related field required (or preferred, depending on posting needs); this is not an entry-level position
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a driving record in good standing in accordance with company Motor Vehicle Records requirements
  • Working knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap materials, grades, and processing practices preferred
  • Proficiency with standard desktop applications, including Microsoft Office and internet-based tools
  • Ability to work flexible hours and operate independently
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent customer relationship and negotiation skills
  • Ability to analyze and interpret basic sales, pricing, and volume reports
  • High School Diploma or equivalent work experience required

  • Working knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap materials, grades, and processing practices preferred

Responsibilities

  • Purchase non-ferrous scrap metals from suppliers for processing; role may also include buying and selling ferrous and non-ferrous materials
  • Maintain real-time awareness of inbound and outbound scrap inventory and material available for purchase or sale
  • Maintain strong working knowledge of scrap grades, specifications, market requirements, and scrap market values to evaluate material, negotiate pricing, and assess opportunities
  • Monitor competitive activity, market pricing, and broader scrap and metals industry trends, and communicate key developments to management
  • Develop and maintain long-term relationships with suppliers and consumers to understand their business needs and support sustainable growth
  • Work closely with operations, logistics, and scale personnel to provide efficient solutions and coordinate logistics and delivery of sold material as needed
  • Utilize company systems and tools to follow established buying, selling, pricing, payment terms, and commercial processes
  • Attend and participate in applicable sales meetings, training sessions, and industry events
  • Travel regularly to supplier and customer locations to support relationship development, evaluate material, and grow business opportunities. Estimated range of 25%-50% annually.
