About The Position

Metallurgists with AAM are responsible for providing ongoing metallurgical analysis and physical test results for production process control, product quality assurance, and provides product and material analysis. Ideal candidates will have prior professional experience in Metallurgy, metallurgic lab equipment, heat treatment, and quality systems. They will have high analytical ability where problems are complex, good oral and written communication skills, and a high level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.

Requirements

  • Completed Bachelor's degree with focus in metallurgy or mechanical engineering required or combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Two to five years' professional experience in a Metallurgical role.
  • Understanding of manufacturing process and quality systems (IATF 16949 and CQI9).
  • Proficiency in the use of metallurgical lab equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Operation of Metallurgical laboratory equipment to perform sample evaluations.
  • Conduct evaluations on furnaces samples for conformance to print for case depth, microstructure and hardness
  • Conducts appropriate tests of process or production material.
  • Assures materials meet established criteria and reports exceptions.
  • Start and maintain the furnace and settings for the product adhering to the metallurgical standards.
  • Assist management in scheduling furnace maintenance or safety checks as required.
  • Review furnace process data and adjust when required to maintain conformance to specification.
  • Review and disposition non-conforming loads heat treated at OSP heat treat suppliers and any potential raw material or forging indications that are found during processing.
  • Communicate efforts through interaction with laboratory department personnel and in the form of written laboratory test reports and with leadership regarding production status, requirements, and problems to leadership.
  • Responsible for the effective use of personnel, materials, and equipment within designated department.
  • Assist in developing, presenting, and maintaining standard operating procedures and work instructions.
  • Maintain safety, quality, and housekeeping standards.
  • Support all ISO/TS, IATF, APQP, FMEA, PFMEA, CQI-9 self-assessment
  • Assists with problem solving in manufacturing environment relating to metallurgical matters.
  • Other duties as assigned.
