Requirements

  • BS degree in Metallurgy or Materials Science or equivalent work experience with a BS in a S.T.E.M. field.
  • 5 - 8 years of laboratory experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong mathematical skills.
  • Must be familiar with all metallurgical lab equipment and testing procedures.
  • Strong customer focus.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to organize and multi-task.
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • Commercial testing laboratory experience preferred.
  • Failure analysis and reverse engineering experience of metallic components from various industries.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of Metallurgical lab duties, ensuring the overall efficiency of the laboratory.
  • Conduct analyses in collaboration with metallurgical technicians and other laboratory staff.
  • Proficiently perform the duties of Technician I, II, and III, as needed.
  • Prepare and review technical reports, including Failure Analysis reports, using established methods and techniques.
  • Maintain, revise, and develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in coordination with Metallurgist II, Chief Metallurgist, Operations Manager, Quality Manager, and laboratory staff.
  • Interface with LIMS for the entry, technical review, approval, and release of metallurgical test data and reports.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with SEM operation and data interpretation.
  • Adhere to all quality, safety, and regulatory standards.
  • Oversee and manage employees within the assigned department.
  • Support training, coaching, competency development, and performance expectations.
  • Ensure appropriate coverage, cross-training, and workload balance.
  • Oversee and manage daily testing volumes and priorities.
  • Participate directly in testing when required due to absences, high workloads, or complex technical needs.
  • Maintain technical proficiency and familiarity with all equipment and testing methods in the assigned area.
  • Delegate and oversee in-house preventative maintenance and routine cleaning of equipment.
  • Coordinate with Facilities or external vendors for advanced maintenance, calibration, or repairs as required.
  • Provide proactive and professional customer service, fostering positive client relationships.
  • Serve as a technical liaison to customers, responding to technical inquiries and consultation requests.
  • Supply technical input to the Sales and Commercial teams regarding laboratory capabilities, testing methods, and feasibility.
  • Answer customer questions and provide technical insight specific to the assigned department.
  • Perform technical review and acceptance of incoming orders.
  • Conduct final technical review, approval, and release of laboratory reports.
  • Maintain testing specifications and methods within LV8.
  • Generate routings and technical guidance for the Commercial team.
  • Coordinate and respond to quality-related items in collaboration with the Director and other metallurgists, including: Internal Round Robins Observations and corrective actions Training and competency documentation Proficiency testing SOP development and review Client concerns related to the assigned technical area
  • Support Science & Technology (S&T) initiatives, including: Development and implementation of new testing technologies Creation of technical marketing and educational material
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support laboratory operations and business needs.
