About The Position

As a global leader in Stainless Steel, we're seeking  a dynamic Metallurgical/Materials Science Process Engineer to join our Cold Rolling Works team in Calvert, North Mobile County, AL.   Objective: To evaluate, implement, and optimize manufacturing processes for the production of high-quality stainless steel. This role focuses on the continuous improvement of the 20-high Sendzimir mill's reliability and performance, ensuring maximum output with minimum defects while maintaining rigorous safety and environmental standards.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree Metallurgical, Material Science, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering
  • Professional Experience: Typically requires 2–5+ years of experience in heavy manufacturing environment
  • Methodology: Experience with Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma (Green Belt) is highly desirable
  • Software Proficiency: Proficiency data analysis tools (e.g., Minitab, Production Planning Systems, Power BI), and MS Office suite.
  • Metallurgical Knowledge: Understanding of stainless-steel strip properties, metallurgy, and applications.
  • Control Systems: Familiarity with process models, instrumentation, and PLC-controlled systems common in modern mills.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written skills to effectively present technical findings to both management and shop-floor personnel
  • Project Management: Ability to manage departmental budgets, timelines, and vendor relationships for engineering projects.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong ability to systematically break down complex systems and use data to pinpoint optimization areas. Safety Focus: Deep commitment to a safe work environment and familiarity with industrial safety standards (e.g., OSHA).
  • Problem-Solving: Proven aptitude for quick and effective resolution of manufacturing challenges in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Process Optimization: Analyze and optimize cold rolling processes to improve strip quality, gauge tolerance, and shape while reducing production costs and waste.
  • Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve complex technical issues related to mill operations, including root cause analysis of equipment failures or process deviations
  • Project Leadership: Lead capital improvement projects from design through commissioning, including the installation of new process control systems or automated equipment
  • Data Analysis: Utilize Statistical Process Control (SPC) and other data-driven methodologies to monitor mill performance and identify trends for proactive improvements
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with maintenance and production teams to develop effective maintenance programs and provide technical training for mill operators
  • Compliance: Ensure all processes and equipment modifications adhere to company safety protocols, national standards, and environmental regulations
