About The Position

Position Summary: Develops and analyzes test results and examines metals and alloys under the direction of Met Lab Manager or an experienced Metallurgist by performing the following duties. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned. Requirements

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED); and/or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Interacts with outside testing labs to write testing purchase orders according to test plans, gathers and organizes cutups and production forging-prolong samples for testing.
  • Organizes and maintains test remnants as required in controlled area.
  • Collects, organizes, and examines test results, approves/rejects test reports according to material/testing specifications.
  • Files and matches paperwork on test plans to purchase orders to certifications and invoices.
  • Interprets and understands customer specification requirements.
  • Studies blueprints to properly orient test coupons.
  • Analyzes test results using modern statistical methods including but not limited to descriptive statistics, histogram, correlation, and regression analysis.
  • Assists Metallurgy department in resolving metallurgical test failures.
  • Coordinates with other testing houses for routine microscopic examinations of metals and alloys to determine their crystal structure, phase morphology, homogeneity, and other characteristics.
  • Prepares and photographs metal specimens/forgings utilizing electronic camera equipment, in conjunction with a microscope.
  • Examines metal and alloy samples with Alloy ID/Electrical Conductivity equipment to measure chemical composition and other characteristics of metals.
  • Performs lab heat treatment on test samples/forgings for capability testing to determine strength, hardness, elasticity, toughness, and microscopic examination.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
