About The Position

The Metallurgical Engineer provides metallurgical support to operating department personnel to ensure the safe and reliable operation of the generation, transmission and distribution equipment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science and Engineering from an accredited college or university required.
  • Must have working knowledge of ferrous metallurgy.
  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel, and Access required.
  • Must have good analytical, communication, and human relations skills.
  • Some travel required.

Nice To Haves

  • Power or petrochemical industry experience preferred.
  • Field experience or course work in non-destructive testing, welding or welding metallurgy, and/or failure analysis preferred.
  • Working knowledge of metallurgical laboratory equipment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform metallographic failure analysis to determine failure mechanism and probable cause.
  • Provide guidance on material selection and suitability for intended application.
  • Develop, coordinate and execute inspection plans for high energy piping systems in the fossil-fired power plants.
  • Support plant engineering staffs to develop and execute condition assessments and remaining life studies on high temperature components in the fossil fired plants.
  • Consult with plant engineers on a wide range of metallurgical issues.
