About The Position

The Metallurgical Engineer I position involves reviewing inquiries for capability, material selection, and quality testing requirements. The engineer will be responsible for reviewing orders alongside Production Planning to ensure proper chemistry, melt practices, heat treatment, and routing through the manufacturing process. The role includes troubleshooting process problems, investigating customer claims, and documenting processes in the form of DI's or SOP's. The engineer will also collect historical data to improve yield and product characteristics, and provide technical service to customers. Work must be performed in accordance with ECFG's AS9100/ISO 9001 Quality Management System.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in metallurgy or materials science.
  • Limited industry experience.

Responsibilities

  • Review inquiries for capability, least cost material selection, and quality testing requirements.
  • Review all orders with Production Planning for purchase order, drawing, and specification requirements.
  • Select proper chemistry and ingot size for each order.
  • Determine optimum melt practice and ingot location for adequate sonic and mechanical properties.
  • Establish proper post melt thermal practices and heat treatment parameters.
  • Document processes in the form of DI's or SOP's.
  • Monitor and control processing, testing, and inspection of orders.
  • Troubleshoot and investigate process problems and non-conforming materials.
  • Perform investigations to improve yield, lower costs, and enhance product characteristics.
  • Collect historical data regarding yield, heat treatment performance, and mechanical properties.
  • Provide customer technical service.
  • Collaborate with other Product Metallurgical Engineers to draft generic DI's/SOP's.
