The Metadata Management Librarian at the University of Oregon plays a crucial role in enhancing the discovery and access to library collections through effective metadata management. This position focuses on coordinating metadata workflows, batch processing, and quality control, while fostering collaboration and professional growth within the library community. The librarian will lead projects that align with the library's strategic goals, provide training for staff, and ensure the accuracy and consistency of metadata across various platforms.

  • Coordinate and provide expertise in metadata management and batch processing.
  • Design, manage, and enhance metadata workflows within the integrated library system.
  • Lead metadata transformation and enhancement projects.
  • Provide training and development opportunities for library staff.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for metadata workflows.
  • Analyze and streamline cataloging processes to optimize efficiency.
  • Coordinate and troubleshoot batch processes for metadata loading and transformation.
  • Contribute to electronic resources cataloging and management.
  • Master's Degree in Library/Information Science or equivalent terminal degree.
  • One year post-degree experience in copy and/or original cataloging in an academic library.
  • Knowledge of cataloging standards and practices, including MARC formats and RDA.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel or similar spreadsheet software.
  • Ability to use programmatic tools for metadata manipulation.
  • Experience with scripting languages like Python for automating tasks.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Access or another relational database.
  • Experience with Ex Libris' Alma ILS system.
  • Experience in developing and delivering training on technical processes.
